I have been really looking forward to the Outer Banks Sprint Triathlon this coming weekend as my last tri of the season but, alas, it looks as if it is not to be....
A combinantion of a ridiculous work/travel schedule and a nagging "ankle tweak" have prevented me from keeping up with my training schedule and, on top of that, I have been sleeping horribly and feeling pretty unwell. I've decided, therefore, after consulting with The Puppeteer, not to force things, to let my ankle recover and to take a pass on the OBX event. A very disappointing end to the season! :-(
On top of the personal disappointment, I also feel as if I am somehow letting down the fine folks at Outer Banks Sporting Events and the local Gruppo Sportivo Club down at the coast who have worked so very hard to get the place tidied-up and the course ready after Hurricane Irene did her worst a few weeks back. I'm sure that they will host a first class event without me, but I would have loved to be there to show my support.
Finally, this was my first ever triathlon last year and I was looking forward to comparing my performance after a year of training. I guess that it's just not meant to be.
While my tri season has ended with a whimper, I still have the Outer Banks Half Marathon to look forward to, so I need to shake off my disappointment, get some rest, make sure that my ankle is fully recovered and start to focus on some good run work!
